Appearance of Phobia
- Genetic factors (agoraphobia clearer than in the other)
- Family and cultural influence. Some patient’s family usually have the same fear, and phobias, as part of our culture, there are “fashions” (No longer is the phobia of tuberculosis, but has eg. Phobia AIDS or cancer)
- Maintenance: This is important because avoiding what triggers the phobia or cope with someone you trust to protect us and reassure (eg. If I have fear of going out and just do it with a family member or friend) does not lead to cure the phobia if not accompanied by adequate treatment, but somehow support the patient’s fears, and what you get is that the next time you repeat this behavior because it has managed to reduce the degree of suffering anxiety.
Some types of phobias: “Agoraphobia, Bacilofobia, Claustrophobia, Dromofobia, Entomofobia, Fobofobia, Gefirofobia, Hydrophobia, … Zoofobia”
How can we imagine, can have a phobia about anything. The list of possible phobias would never end, however, in practice can be grouped, thus having a simple classification that allows us to orient ourselves.
- Phobias to external stimuli: they are the best known, such as agoraphobia, social phobia and simple phobias or specific (animals, objects, etc …), which we now turn.
- Phobias to internal stimuli: nosophobia (fear of illness) and phobias inherent in other disorders (such as obsessive) and will not dwell on the complexity.
