Chronic Renal Failure and Diabetes Mellitus
A group of researchers from the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS), composed of specialists in kidney disease, received the award “Alfonso Robinson Bours” in the category of medical care, a study that will help optimize the quality of care for individuals suffering from chronic renal failure and diabetes mellitus type 2.
The IRC is suffering from a serious health problem associated with mortality and poor quality of life in people who suffer.
According to the Dialysis and Transplant Registry of the State of Jalisco, Mexican per million, there are about 500 people on treatment.
Alfonso Cueto Manzano, head of the Medical Research Unit in Kidney Diseases Specialty Hospital National Medical Center in West IMSS Jalisco, said the study began in September 2000 and applied to 800 beneficiaries with diabetes mellitus type 2.
He reported that an initial analysis determined that the control group of diabetes patients, 320 had early-stage IRC and had symptoms such as excessive thirst, fatigue, nausea and weight loss; 232 suffered damage that endangered the kidney and only 248 showed good functioning of the organ.
That means that over two thirds of the participants had some type of damage without knowing by what the research was directed at the importance of training family physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of beneficiaries with diabetes who also have kidney disease
