Organic Foods Are More Nutritious And Healthy
A European study claims that organic foods are more nutritious and healthy, A European study has confirmed that organically produced foods contain a higher concentration of antioxidants and higher in minerals and vitamins, so they can say they are “more nutritious, tasty and safe and preserve biodiversity and the environment. “
The study, funded with 18 million euros by the European Union, was introduced by Doctor in Microbiology and a professor at the University of Newcastle, Carlo Leifert. This is the most research in this field, under the QLIF project, which integrates to a total of 15 countries.
This research has included all of the food chain for protected products (tomatoes), open-grown vegetables (lettuce, onions, potatoes, carrots, cabbage), fruits (apples), cereals (wheat), pork products dairy and poultry.
This study indicates that the issues of most concern to consumers and decanted ecological consumption are the presence of genetically modified organisms, the presence of pesticides and antibiotics and food poisoning.
Organic production reduces significantly the environmental problems caused by conventional tillage. Also, organic food of plant origin have been marked by higher content of dry matter, minerals, vitamins, proteins and carbohydrates, according to the study.
The report also stresses that found higher concentration of antioxidants, both in organic fruit and vegetables as in the urine of people whose diet was based on organic foods.
The results for milk and organic dairy products show a higher content of vitamins A and E, and higher proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids, than those obtained by conventional methods. The increases for organic food vary between 40 percent and 80 percent, depending on the nutrient and food.
