Taking Antidepressants During Pregnancy
Taking antidepressants during pregnancy Is there any evidence showing positive effects?
Webinar with Barbara Mintzes, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, University of British Columbia, UBC Centre for Health Services and Policy Research, and board member of Action for the Protection health of women.
Antidepressants are increasingly prescribed in Canada for treating depression during pregnancy, although Health Canada and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration have not approved the use in such circumstances. The scientific community and the public have recently considered the increased risks to the health of newborns and opinions are divided concerning the use of antidepressants categories SSRIs / SNRIs during pregnancy.
Ms. Mintzes present the results of a systematic evaluation of all available studies comparing women with depression treated with antidepressants during pregnancy to those who have not been subjected to such treatment. This approach seeks to address a pressing clinical issue that raises controversy: is it that treatment with antidepressants produces positive effects in pregnant women?
This research and Webinar are financed by the Contribution Program for Women’s Health, Health Canada.
