These are most common in everyday life, probably 90% of people have had a tension headache in the last year.

The term defines a tension headache pain sensation similar to a compression band around the head, similar to wearing a hat too tight.

As I said, is the most prevalent headache, almost 7 times more than the migraine. There are almost no differences between sexes but a slight preponderance of women.

It has often among middle-aged people (40 – 49 years) and usually occurs in the course of their years of maximum productivity. As we grow older headache frequency decreased.

What are the features of tension headache?

Tension headaches are recurrent headaches, which usually last between 30 minutes to 7 days. Crushing-type pain is a mild and located on both sides of the head. The pain is not aggravated by physical activity daily, such as climbing stairs. It is sometimes associated with tenderness of the muscles paracraneales.

Usually the patient has no associated nausea or vomiting nor intolerance to noise or bright spaces.

It is not absolutely necessary to comply with these criteria for the diagnosis of tension headache.
