Understanding the Complexity of Emotional Reactions Aroused By the AIDS

Along with advances in medical treatment of HIV infection, it has become clear the importance of psycho therapeutic aspects central to health care for such patients.

Perhaps it is in this disease, more than any other in recent history, which has seen the close relationship that exists between the physical and psychological symptoms.

In this framework has become an important technique that in the Anglo world has been called “counseling”, a term that refers to psycho educational and psycho therapeutic procedures to be used for handling these cases.

WHO recommends a series of measures to be taken into account when it comes to acting with AIDS patients, although the techniques to follow these patients are generally very simple and standard.

It is recommended that health workers who are dedicated to this task have special training. It is not enough goodwill. You must be prepared to know:

1) The issues to be addressed

2) The approaches to be made to such patients, given the special psychological crossing upon detection of the disease.

3) Trying to change their habits.

Psycho therapeutic interventions are increasingly necessary in the management of HIV-positive patient, even if asymptomatic: In short, about AIDS raises many emotion-laden reactions that need to be controlling, and understanding the complexity of emotional reactions aroused by the AIDS, their consequences and try to go creating a desire for patients to take their disease, is one of the primary tasks of the psychotherapist.

Self-help groups of patients or relatives have also been used successfully in this field of mental health care.
